Death of Croydon Officer

The Police Arboretum Memorial Trust is appalled and deeply saddened to hear of the death of the police officer killed in Croydon this morning.

Sir Hugh Orde, Chair of Trustees said: “This is a dreadful incident and my heart goes out to the officer’s family, friends and policing colleagues. Every day our police officers put their lives on the line and this officer has tragically paid that ultimate price.

“As the former Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, I know personally the devastation of losing one of your own and the awful impact it has on families, friends and colleagues. That is why it is vitally important that as a nation we never forget those who have given their lives to keep us safe and protect us from harm.

“The new UK Police Memorial, being built at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, will allow the country to remember and honour all of those from our Police service who made that unimaginable sacrifice.”
